The Muskego Community Flood Relief Fund was born out of the devastating floods that impacted our neighbors this summer. In the aftermath, community members and businesses came together not only to provide immediate volunteer help but also to ask: “How can we make sure financial support stays local and gets to the people who need it most?”

This fund is the answer. Modeled after proven disaster relief distributions across the country, the Muskego Community Relief Fund is a community-led, transparent way to direct donations back into Muskego. Every dollar raised is restricted for flood relief and managed with accountability.

In this role, Jesse serves as the administrator and organizer of the Relief Fund—coordinating the Assessment & Distribution Team, supporting the Oversight Committee, and ensuring the process runs smoothly and transparently. Terri will not have any control over who receives financial support.

How the Muskego Community Relief Fund Works

The Muskego Community Relief Fund was created to provide fair, transparent, and community-driven support for residents impacted by the recent floods. Here’s exactly how the process works:

1. Raising Funds

  • Donations Accepted Until 11:59pm on September 16th – Both individuals and businesses are encouraged to give. Businesses may also host fundraisers and direct proceeds to the Relief Fund.

  • All money raised is restricted to this effort alone and will be used only to support Muskego residents impacted by the flood.

2. Requesting Help

  • Requests Accepted Until 11:59pm on September 21st – Any Muskego resident whose need is directly tied to flood damage can submit a request for support.

  • Requests may include housing, cleanup, essential bills, or other recovery-related needs.

3. Assessment & Distribution Team

  • A group of unbiased volunteer assessors with disaster relief experience will review all submissions.

  • To prevent favoritism or conflicts of interest, assessors do not have personal ties to applicants or to the Muskego community.

  • Their role is to carefully evaluate each request and recommend fair, need-based distributions.

4. Oversight Committee

  • Composed of volunteer trusted Muskego community members, this committee reviews the decisions of the Assessment & Distribution Team.

  • Their purpose is to provide transparency and accountability—not to control or change decisions—ensuring the process is ethical and trusted by the community.

5. Fund Management by Lakepoint Church

  • To add another layer of security and trust, Lakepoint Church manages the restricted fund account.

  • They process all donations and distributions, providing nonprofit oversight and reporting.

  • This ensures funds are handled responsibly and transparently.

6. Timeline for Distributions

  • The Assessment & Distribution Team will review submissions between September 16th and October 1st.

  • Our goal is to completed all donations no later than October 31st.

  • Once all funds are distributed, the Relief Fund will be closed, and no money will remain in the account.

7. Updates & Communication

  • Progress updates will be posted on our website and shared through email updates.

  • Anyone who wants to stay informed should sign up for updates on our site.

  • Applicants will only be contacted directly if their request is approved for support.

8. Leadership & Facilitation

  • Jesse Hieb is facilitating the Relief Fund process, drawing on his years of experience in disaster relief and community organizing.

  • He is supported by Terri Boyer in leading and coordinating these efforts.

  • Together, they work to ensure the teams stay organized, fair, and effective.

In summary: Businesses and individuals raise the funds → residents submit requests → an impartial team evaluates those requests → a community oversight committee reviews the process → Lakepoint Church manages the money → funds are distributed fairly and transparently by October 31st.

Independence of the Relief Fund

The Muskego Community Flood Relief Fund is not organized, operated, or controlled by the City of Muskego or City Hall. While we are grateful for the support and cooperation of local leaders, this fund is a community-led initiative. The City has no role in how money is raised, managed, or distributed.

In addition, no business, donor, or individual has the ability to influence how funds are allotted or distributed. All requests are reviewed by an independent Assessment & Distribution Team, and decisions are made based solely on demonstrated need and alignment with the fund’s purpose. An Oversight Committee of trusted community members ensures that the process remains transparent and accountable.

This structure protects the integrity of the fund and ensures that every dollar is used fairly and responsibly to support Muskego residents recovering from the flood.
